Is this like Puzzle and Dragons?
No. Yes. Kind of? Mostly.
Dokkan Battle is free to download, just like Puzzle and Dragons, or Brave Frontier, or School Idol Festival or Contest of Champions or One Piece Treasure Cruise or Terra Battle or Alphabear or let's move on.
The similarities mostly lie in the whole idea of building your team. You get six guys or girls or namekians or robots, and you feed weaker guys to them to make them stronger, much like most of those games. There are some differences in that you can continue to upgrade them once you've maxed their level. We'll get to that in a second but let's talk about what else is similar to most gacha garbage.
Therrrre it is. So you get two types of currency, your Friendship Points and your Dragon Stones. You earn FP by adding a seventh guest character to your team each mission. You get a hundo for someone on your friendslist and 50 for someone you don't. Each normal summon costs 100 points so you can crank those out really quick.
Of course, they get you mostly Saibamen. And Yamcha. So you wanna pump those sweet, sweet dragon stones into the game. They cost real money but you get 1 every time you clear a mission for the first time, and two for finishing a chapter.
Missions and chapters? Is this where you tell us how the game plays?
So you've got chapters, consisting of a bunch of missions each, and each mission costs you energy, as is common with these games.
But you can already see what's weird about this game. There's a BOARD GAME element to this. You move around the board and collect money, support items for the combat phase, and something called Awakening Medals, which you'll use to further evolve maxed characters, like I was talking about.
Also, as you go through the maps, you have a chance to collect a dragon ball! If you collect seven of them, you can make one of four wishes with ya boi Shenron, and then you get to collect them all over again! If you're new you should definitely go out of your way to get these, as it's a great way to get stuff early on.
Also, events are really good for EXP and rare dudes too.
The combat part is where we wave goodbye to Puzzle and Dragons. We're trying to line these orbs up in a way that will trace a path from us to the enemy. For each orb we actually connect, we get power. If you match colors, you get more power. Max your power out, you do a special move. The orbs shift every time you make a move. It's pretty fun, considering the type of game this is. Each character has a type, with a weakness and strength. They also have passive links. So like, if I put Trunks next to Vegeta, they trigger The Vegeta Family, which makes 'em stronger. You get to bring in healing items and other consumables.
That's a basic rundown of this trashheap!
