Lots of people today say that nobody has the attention span to read anything lengthier than a tweet. Heck, I've heard people say that Millennials don't read at all.

Wouldn't you like to prove them wrong? Wouldn't you like to read something fascinating, in-depth, and worthy of spending a good half-hour with, maybe with a good cup of tea by your side? Wouldn't you like to feel fancy and maybe just a bit intellectual?

You know what you need? You need some Longreads.

What's a longread? It's pretty much any bit of journalism or non-fiction writing on the internet that is long. Basically, the polar opposite of anything from Buzzfeed, unless we're talking about Buzzfeed's longreads (they have some! I don't know how to find them on their website behind articles like "834 Times Your Favorite Hunger Games Actor's Eyebrows Were on Fleek", but they apparently have some!). They're like essays, only trendy and hip. The term seems to have come from Longreads.com, which lists and suggests readable things that are long! Handy!

Obviously not all longreads are good, but many of them are great! The best longreads will expose you to topics that you never knew you'd find fascinating.

Here's a great one from SBNation about the Appalachian trail, the hikers who love it, and a criminal on the run.

Or maybe you'd rather read about the quest to make an Ebola cure from the blood of survivors, which could lead to a method of treating any virus in the world.

Here's one about Harper Lee's new book, and how the story of its serendipitous discovery might not be as wonderful as it appears

Maybe the best part of longreads is talking to other people about them. On twitter and elsewhere, folks are coming together to share and discuss the stories that matter to them.

Let's read!
